Spanish Town Man Remanded for Allegedly Selling Rented Car

A 45-year-old man from Spanish Town, St. Catherine, accused of selling a vehicle he had rented, has been remanded in custody and is set to return to court on October 28.

The accused, Marlon Chang, has been charged with larceny. The matter was heard before Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle, who also ordered a social enquiry report to be prepared.

Additionally, the court approved the release of the vehicle—a Toyota Aqua valued at $2.3 million—to its owner under a $1.6 million bond, with strict instructions that the car must not be sold, altered, or disposed of while the case is ongoing.

According to police reports, in June, Chang rented the Toyota Aqua from a woman and later sold it for $1.1 million to a man in Clarendon, allegedly without providing a valid title. After waiting in vain for the document, the buyer contacted an insurance company, which helped trace the rightful owner of the vehicle.

The police were subsequently alerted, and an investigation was launched. Chang was apprehended on September 24 along Old Harbour Road in St. Catherine and later charged with larceny of a motor vehicle.

He remains in custody pending his next court appearance.
