Delivery Driver Charged After Police Seize 1,500 Pounds of Ganja in St. Thomas

A 33-year-old delivery driver from Clarendon has been charged following the seizure of more than 1,500 pounds of compressed ganja, valued at approximately $4.7 million, during a police operation in Morant Bay, St. Thomas, on Wednesday.

The accused, Fabian Watson, of Mount Zion, Rock River, has been charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, trafficking ganja, taking steps preparatory to export ganja, possession of criminal property, and conspiracy under the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Reports from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) indicate that around 10:33 p.m., officers—supported by the St. Thomas Police—intercepted a truck driven by Watson along Church Street in Morant Bay. A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered over 150 parcels of compressed ganja along with more than $180,000 in cash.

Acting Senior Superintendent of Police Patrae Rowe, Director of FNID, said the division remains committed to targeting drug traffickers and dismantling the financial operations behind criminal networks.

“These operations focus not only on intercepting drugs but also on cutting off the financial support of criminal organizations that use drug trafficking to fund broader criminal activity,” SSP Rowe explained.

“Ganja is not just a harmless plant—it is a major commodity in the dangerous guns-for-drugs trade. Firearms are being brought into our country through this trade to commit murders,” he added.

The FNID is urging members of the public to report information on illegal firearms and narcotics by calling 876-923-6184, the National Intelligence Bureau at 811, Crime Stop at 311, police emergency number 119, or by visiting the nearest police station.
