Tensions flared in Seaton Crescent, Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, on Tuesday afternoon as residents staged a protest over the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Desmond Montaque, a former Godfrey Stewart High School footballer.

The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. Reports are that a police team kicked in the door to Montaque’s house, and shortly after, three shots were heard.

Montaque was later seen being taken from the house wearing only his underpants.

Another described Montaque as a “quiet, easy-going youth” with no history of trouble with the law, adding, “I want to see how the police going to explain this.”

The demonstration later escalated as police reportedly used tear gas to disperse the crowd. Residents insisted they will continue to call for justice.
