Police in St. Thomas have made another major drug bust, seizing more than 1,500 pounds of ganja during an operation in Morant Bay on Wednesday night.
Reports are that around 10:30 p.m., officers from the St. Thomas Highway Patrol, acting on intelligence, stopped a truck travelling along Church Street. A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered several large knitted bags filled with ganja in the back of the truck.
The driver, a haulage contractor from Clarendon, was arrested on the spot. Both the truck and the contraband were seized.
Authorities later confirmed that the recovered ganja weighed in excess of 1,500 pounds.
The police say formal charges are expected to be laid following further investigations
