St. Catherine Man Jailed for Stabbing Brother with Scissors in Unprovoked Attack

A St. Catherine man has been sentenced to prison after stabbing his brother multiple times with a pair of scissors during an unprovoked attack that left the victim hospitalised for weeks.

Fifty-one-year-old Brian Allen, a labourer of Tydixon district, was sentenced on Friday to 12 months and 20 days at hard labour after pleading guilty to unlawful wounding.

Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle described Allen’s actions as “unjustified and violent,” stating that a custodial sentence was the only appropriate punishment. She, however, granted a 50 per cent reduction for his guilty plea and credited the four months he had already served in custody.

The judge also ordered that Allen participate in anger management counselling.

Court documents revealed that on June 7, 2025, the complainant was at home when Allen suddenly attacked him, stabbing him repeatedly in the neck and chest. The victim spent six weeks in the hospital recovering from his injuries.

Allen was subsequently arrested and charged by the Shady Grove Police.
