The Constituted Authority has dismissed an opposition challenge seeking to void the election results in Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness’s St. Andrew West Central constituency.

People’s National Party (PNP) candidate Paul Buchanan, who lost to Dr. Holness in the September 3 general election, had argued that the vote was marred by violence and intimidation in sections of Olympic Gardens and Molynes Gardens. Dr. Holness won the seat with 7,054 votes to Buchanan’s 4,953.

In a letter dated September 16, 2025, Buchanan petitioned the Authority to apply to the election court to overturn the results, citing Section 37(e) of the Election Petition Act, which addresses irregularities or violence capable of undermining a free and fair election. He also submitted affidavits in support of his claims.
However, after reviewing the submissions and relevant case law, the Authority ruled that the evidence presented did not meet the legal threshold required to void the election.
Buchanan, who has been pressing his case since Election Day, now faces the prospect of ending his challenge against Dr. Holness’s victory.
