Two fishermen who went missing after leaving the Greenwood Fishing Village in Montego Bay on Friday, October 10, have been safely rescued by members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guard and JDF Air Wing.
According to reports, the men departed the fishing village early Friday to conduct routine fishing operations in and around the Montego Bay Harbour. Their vessel, which was expected to return before nightfall, failed to do so, and repeated attempts to contact them proved unsuccessful.
An immediate search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched, coordinated jointly by the JDF Coast Guard and Air Wing. The fishermen were later located approximately 15 miles off the coast of Montego Bay.
Both men were found safe and in good health and were escorted back to shore along with their vessel.
The JDF Coast Guard has since renewed its call for all mariners to conduct proper safety checks before departure, ensure their vessels are seaworthy and equipped with communication and safety devices, and always file a float plan to facilitate quick response during emergencies.
