Fire Destroys Home in Portland, Leaving Three Homeless Ahead of Hurricane Melissa

As residents in Portland prepared for the arrival of Hurricane Melissa, tragedy struck in Port Antonio when a fire of unknown origin left three people homeless on Sunday night.

The blaze reportedly broke out shortly after 7:30 p.m. along West Street amid strong winds and intermittent rain. The flames quickly engulfed a four-bedroom house before firefighters, battling difficult weather conditions, managed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to at least four nearby buildings.

Fire officials say the cause of the blaze remains undetermined. Investigations and damage assessments are expected to continue on Monday
