Millions stolen from Beryllium vehicle still missing

Nearly a week after the arrest of a security guard accused of stealing millions from a Beryllium armoured vehicle, investigators say the stolen cash remains missing.

Police confirm that while the guard has been taken into custody, the exact amount of money stolen has not yet been determined.

An official from Guardsman Group, Beryllium’s parent company, declined to comment when contacted on Tuesday.

As of early Wednesday, no formal charges had been laid against the 42-year-old guard. A senior investigator explained that the next step involves a question-and-answer session with the suspect in the presence of his attorney before charges can be filed.

The guard was captured last Thursday at a premises in St Andrew, ending a seven-day manhunt. He was part of a three-man Beryllium team assigned to collect cash at MegaMart, St Andrew, on October 11.

Reports indicate that while his colleagues went inside the store, the guard remained in the armoured vehicle. When they returned, both he and the cash—estimated between $15 million and $20 million—were gone. He reportedly left behind his company-issued firearm and uniform inside the vehicle.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
