Man shot by police in St Andrew succumbs to injuries

A 20-year-old man who was shot during an alleged confrontation with the police in Top Maryland district, St. Andrew, has died from his injuries.

He has been identified as Shamar Fletcher.

According to reports, around 3 a.m. Tuesday, a police operation was being carried out in the area when officers were allegedly fired upon. Lawmen reportedly returned fire, and after the shooting subsided, a search of the area was conducted.

Fletcher was reportedly found lying face down with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head and a firearm beside him. He was taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has since launched a probe into the fatal shooting.
