Police Commissioner Sets Goal to Keep Murders Below 152 for the next 71 days

Police Commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake has challenged members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to ensure that no more than 152 murders are recorded across the island during the remaining 71 days of the year.

The directive, outlined in the latest edition of Commissioner’s Corner in the Force Orders, forms part of Dr. Blake’s push to keep Jamaica’s 2025 murder total below 700 — a target that, if achieved, would represent one of the lowest homicide figures in more than three decades.

At the midway point of October, the country had recorded 548 murders. Dr. Blake noted that Jamaica had previously seen an entire quarter with 156 murders, suggesting that keeping the count under 152 for the remainder of the year is achievable with sustained focus and discipline.

“We must remain steadfast. Keep focused and get it done,” the Commissioner urged his officers.

The last time Jamaica recorded fewer than 700 murders was in 1994, when 690 killings were documented — 31 years ago.
