Minister of Transport Daryl Vaz has announced that school resource officers will be assigned to help monitor students’ behaviour on rural school buses.
The move comes in response to reports of misconduct by some students using the service.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) Auditorium in Kingston on Friday, Vaz said the officers will work to ensure that the buses remain safe and orderly environments for all passengers.
Since the program’s launch on September 8, more than 16,000 students have been utilizing the transportation service daily.
Vaz also revealed that the procurement process for additional buses, as part of phase two of the initiative, will commence shortly.
