A 55-year-old construction worker from Ocho Rios, St. Ann, has been charged following an incident in which he allegedly brandished a firearm and threatened a pump attendant and a security guard at a gas station in Discovery Bay.
The accused, Gary Ferguson, of Great Pond, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and assault at common law.
According to police reports, around 11:50 a.m. on Monday, September 15, Ferguson drove to a gas station and parked his vehicle at one of the pumps. A disagreement reportedly developed between him and a pump attendant during the refueling process.
It is alleged that in the heat of the argument, Ferguson drew a firearm from his pocket, pointed it at the attendant, and issued threats. The frightened attendant ran to a nearby store and raised an alarm, alerting both the store supervisor and an on-duty security guard.
Ferguson then allegedly confronted the guard, whom he suspected was recording the altercation, brandished the firearm again, and pointed it directly at the guard before grabbing the guard’s phone and uttering further threats. He then entered his vehicle and drove away.
Police were quickly alerted, and Ferguson’s vehicle was intercepted shortly afterward. A .45mm pistol was reportedly seized, and Ferguson was taken into custody.
He was formally charged on Friday, October 3, following witness statements that implicated him in the incident.
A court date is being finalized.
